Railroad to and through China

The districts and cities in China are well connected by railroad. This is for the transport of passengers, but also for the transportation of goods through the country and neighbouring countries.

From neighbouring countries China can be reached from Russia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Mongolia and North Korea.

From Russia and Europe
From here there are two lines of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Manchurian lines run between Moscow and Beijing, stopping in various other Russian cities. For the Trans-Mongolian, in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

From Central Asia and Kazakhstan
From Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, one can travel by rail to Urumqi in the northwestern province of Xinjiang. There are long waits at the border crossing for customs, as well as for changing the wheelbase for the next country’s track.

Vietnam
There is also a rail link from Nanning in Guangxi province into Vietnam via the Friendship Pass. There is a second rail link between Kunming in Yunnan province, and Hanoi via Hekou and Lao Cai.

North Korea
From North Korea are connections between the North Korean capital Pyongyang and Beijing.

And of course from Hong Kong are regular rail service links to the mainland of China.
